How to properly season your cast iron Dutch oven or frying pan

This offers the advantages of outdoor cooking with cast iron pans, pots, pans and Dutch ovens made. Now that you have purchased your new cast iron utensils, it must be cleansed and "season" is.

The seasoning is basically saturated the metal casting with oil or grease. Seasoning helps burn off any impurities that may be in the metal. In the first Indiana Jones film, Marian whacks a bad guy on the head with a frying pan and he goes down hard (I think he died)...meet that frying pan. Its painted like a sexy Lamborghini and is NOT light. The ceramic coating is NOT Teflon and won't flake off when you decide to boil water in it. I've fried eggs with a little butter (this isn't really non-stick), fried fish sticks, and made Chinese noodles ...all with no problems...and cleaned up the pan with water and a sponge.
The only thing that stuck a little (left a "ghost print" which eventually scrubbed off) were Chinese steamed dumplings. I've got this and the 9.5 inch frying pan and am contemplating the 8 inch model. I live in Germany, so the price isn't so insane! Keep your eyes peeled for Silit Silargan cookware like this...I can't imagine you'll be disappointed!

Different Ways to Cook Vegetables

Vegetables is a very important part of the diet, because they are so nutritious. It 's a sad fact, however, that most people do not eat enough, perhaps because they do not realize how many different ways to cook vegetables is to choose. Of course, even the vegetables are eaten raw in salads or as a side dish.

You should always wash vegetables before cooking to remove unhealthy chemicals and pesticides. A good way to delete them, and add aTablespoons baking soda in a bottle with hot water. Spray this mixture to the vegetables, then wipe with a paper towel.

One of the healthiest ways to prepare vegetables is to steam. do steamed vegetables with butter and black pepper or a compression of lemon or lime juice in a healthy side dish flavored.

Love this omelette pan! It's a great healthy alternative to nonstick (Teflon) pans. If you're worried about the health risks of cooking with Teflon, this is a fabulous alternative, since you are essentially cooking on glass (nontoxic and won't deleteriously flavor your food while you cook). Use butter or coconut oil to cook with this pan (or cooking spray, if you're watching your calories) and this pan really is virtually nonstick. I love mine so much (in Cobalt Blue), that I bought an 8" omelette pan (in White) to go with it--the smaller one is ideal for cooking eggs in the morning & the larger (10") works great for saute duty or for grilling sandwiches, etc.

Beautiful enamel finish; very elegant cooking pans that look great on the stovetop and hanging from a wall-mounted pot rack. This is some of my favorite cookware & heats evenly & quickly. My color preference after buying two? White--it's a clean and bright white. The blue is a deep blue--very pretty, but tends to look just a little duller after several heatings. Plus, food stands out on white. Just a personal preference, for what it's worth.

I like the look of this pan, quick 1 minute preheat, and the even heating bottom surface. But stuff does stick even with oil, the good thing about the food that sticks it this enamel cleans up very easy. I know it says stick resistant but I would not use that term....I would say stuff sticks and you should be prepared for that.

This is a great frying pan. It seems durable. Non-stick for sure. Heats evenly. It got 4 stars for 2 reasons. First reason is that it is a HUGE piece of equipment and we find it difficult to fit into the cupboard, so, since we use it daily, it lives on the kitchen counter! Not a deal breaker. Second and very importantly, the numbers and markings came off the temp control thingy. The company replaced it with no questions asked, but only weeks later the same thing is happening. In case you are wondering, by way of cleaning we have only used a moist paper towel to wipe the control thingy off. Seems like it is defective paint. We will try again for a replacement and hope that they are willing, AND that they have rectified this problem.
Update: It is now August, and we only recently received our second replacement heat control thing. It took really long for them to send a new one. We are disappointed because it took so long that we have been in our summer home for 6 weeks before it arrived. Sadly, the frying pan is in Florida (and WP had a good six weeks to send it before we left.) We will have to wait until winter to see if this replacement was worth waiting for and has good paint on it this time!

The Best Ever - gmaofmany - MT
Over the years I have owned many electric fry pans and in a short time either the non-stick started coming off or they just didn't hold a good temperature or they quit working.

This amazing roaster/skillet/fryer does it all. It is the easiest thing to clean up, especially since you remove the skillet part from the base and nothing sticks to it. I mean nothing! I have roasted several turkey breasts in it and they are so good and quick to fix without heating up the whole kitchen with the oven.

I hope that the non-stick finish on it holds up well. So far, it is still the best!

I purchased this item but when it arrived, a piece of plastic - the gizmo that you push with your thumb to detach the electric probe temp control from the skillet - was broken. The instructions inside said that if anything was damaged, to call the company, not the store. So I did.

When I explained my problem, my call was referred to a supervisor who politely said that the company didn't honor its warranty when the item was bought from Amazon because Amazon also sold refurbished units! Whaaat?

So, I explained my problem to Amazon which promptly arranged a no charge return pickup and a 100% refund. Now that's customer service! I wound up buying a George Foreman electric skillet from Amazon at about half the price that works very well!

As a mother of two children, I always want the best for my children. So I'm always looking for recipes that are health and nutrition for infants. It is only for meals, or just three times for main food of the day, I'm all for it.

DON'T buy this pan - J. Taylor - New Jersey
Can't even cook center of fried eggs. When putting oil or butter in pan it goes straight to back of the pan. When I fried potatoes had to keep putting oil in front of pan. After only 2 washings of this pan coating is already coming off on side. Only good thing about this pan is the cushioney handle.

Fourth Place roasted burnt (s) on top of onion / onion soup in roaster.

Fifth Sprinkle with salt.

Sixth Cover with onion slices and remaining can of mushroom soup undiluted (optional)

Seventh Cover with alum foil, sealing tightly and bake.

8th timer set for 1 hour for 1 roast, cook for 2 hours for 2 roasts.

Peel the potatoes and ninthDistrict.

10th Cut carrots.

11 When the timer goes off, add potatoes, carrots and mushrooms. Cover and cook for 1 hour more.

Ready when the vegetables are soft. You need time depending on how many vegetables are to be adjusted. I have filled to take the edge of the pan and had to cook an additional 1/2-hour.

Three recipes for beef stew

All three recipes beef stew have two things in common. All are delicious and make a perfect family dinner Sunday.

Bavarian Beef Stew

Ingredients

1 +1 / 2 pounds lean stew beef (cut into bite pieces firms)
2.1 small head red cabbage (cut into 4 pieces)
1 medium onion (sliced)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon sugar
1 + 1 / 2 cup water
1 tablespoon cumin
04:01 cup white vinegar
03:01 Cup crushed Ginger Snaps
1Teaspoon ground black pepper
1 bay leaf

Preparation

In a large skillet brown the meat in olive oil. The meat from the pot and pan to get the pan, fry the onion in olive oil n staying.

Meal of beef stew

2 pounds lean beef tips
4 cupsWater
1-16 oz bag of carrots
6 medium potatoes (a mouthful companies)
3 celery (chopped)
04:03 cup sweet yellow onion (chopped)
2 package dry onion soup mix
1 cup canned or frozen corn

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
In a medium bowl, combine the water and 2 packages of dry onion soup mix. Stir with a whisk until well combined.
Put the meat in a 9x13 baking tips. Add potatoes, carrots, celery, cornand onions.
Pour the water and onion soup mix over the top.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 2 hours. Serves 4

Style BBQ marinated beef stew

Ingredients

2 kg of eye round roast (cut into strips 1 inch)
2 cups water
3 cups barbecue sauce at home (see recipe below)

Hot sauce

Ingredients

1-12 ounces of tomato sauce
02:01 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon ground dry mustard
1 tablespoonGarlic powder
1 tablespoon onion salt
02:01 cup honey
04:01 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt

Preparation

In large saucepan combine all ingredients, bring to rapid boil and simmer slowly for 10 minutes.

Beef Stew Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Pour 2 cups of water in the bottom of the pan.
Put the eye of round roast in a pan.
PourBarbecue sauce over the top of the oven and cook for 2 to 2.5 hours.

These three meals beef stew can also put in an earthenware pot and cook on medium for 8 hours. Serve hot with fresh bread.

For the lulz, we decided to combine our talents and create a "song". Such an epic tribute to the real talent Tom Waits is born. All of the "Music" was recorded in an impromptu session with the bottom oven door with a wooden spoonPots and pans on drums, and an iron pan # 8 with cockroaches essential magic. This is the first cast iron pan I've ever used and it's wonderful. We all know what a pain it can be to clean up eggs, but even after burning them, this pan still cleaned up easily. After a second try at a lower heat level, I could actually watch the eggs lift from the pan when they were ready to be flipped. Lodge Logic also makes a pan called the one egg wonder... well, I think this is the 2-3 egg wonder. However, it's certainly not limited to eggs. One piece of bread fits perfectly so grilled cheeses, toasted sandwiches and the like are great here too, among other things.

It fit the small burner on my electric stove perfectly. It covers all of the coils so no uncovered heat and all the dangers that that implies.

If you're new to cast iron, as I am, make sure to use something when touching the handle. I'm used to being able to grabbing the handle of anything that's on the stove and with this one that's not the case, which I fortunately figured out before it got too hot.

food sticks and cooking surfsce is rough - bbones -
I love this pan except the first time I used it the food stuck to the pan. Also the cooking surface is kind of rough. Maybe that is why food sticks. I thought i usewd enough oil where the food would not stick



6.5" at the top - K. Course - Michigan
This pan is 6.5" diameter at the top, not the bottom. It will hold a sandwich, but not more. My previous experience with pan measurements held that the measurement was taken at the base of the pan . . but not this one. I have not tried it yet, but it certainly is CUTE. I hope I like it as much as it is CUTE. I will report back later.

This skillet is great. The size is perfect for eggs or a sandwich. My one gripe, and the reason I give it 4 stars, is that Lodge doesn't offer a lid for this size skillet like they do with the rest of their line.

Lodge Signature Seasoned Cast-Iron Grill Pan with Stainless-Steel Primary and Assist Handles Review



I have been drooling over the Lodge Signature series since they were first introduced. I have a cupboard full of Lodge (very well used) and couldn't justify the price - until my son direly needed a grill pan. Sooo - I gave him my Lodge Logic grill pan (a fine pan in it's own right) and treated myself to this beauty.

I am astounded at the beauty, heft and quality of this pan. The pictures don't do it justice. Superbly crafted - in the USA (HOORAY!!!!!), pre-seasoned, with gorgeous, well balanced stainless handles and the date 1896 stamped into the helper handle. The Lodge insignia in stainless is just below the main handle.

Couldn't wait to try it - so off to the store for a treat - fresh cut 1 1/2" thick prime filets. Rinsed this black beauty in hot water, dried it and right on the stove. Fired it up HOT, sprayed it with canola oil and put those bad boy filets, rolled in crushed pepper, in the pan. Meanwhile, I had a batch of Alton Brown's Bakers going in the oven, a Caesar salad chilling, a demi-glace made and gorgonzola at the ready and my Lodge Fajita pans heating in a 350 degree oven. 5 minutes and a flip, 3 more minutes, drizzle with demi-glace and crumbled gorgonazola and under a lid for about 45 seconds and then on to the hot fajita pans along with the bakers.

HEAVEN!!!! Those filets were better than any I've ever been served in restaurants - melt in your mouth tender, juicy, seared to perfection. Serving on the hot fajita pans kept them hot until the very last bite.

The quality of this cast iron pan is just amazing - perfect heat distribution - and the stay cool stainless handle is a real bonus. (Note: the helper handle does get hot because of it's length) Cleanup was a breeze - after dinner I poured hot water in the pan, heated it and then swirled a nylon brush around and through the grooves. Clean as a whistle. Rinsed it, dried it, put it back on the stove for a minute to get rid of any moisture and then wiped it down with a very thin coat of food grade beeswax and mineral oil made for chopping blocks (from Wooden Wonders on eBay). This product helps keep your cast iron seasoned without the rancid smell of oil.

After this experience, I will be buying the other Lodge Signature pans. There are pans - and then there are PANS. This falls into the latter category. What a pleasure to use such a beautiful piece that is also exceptionally well crafted, balanced and designed. I haven't had the heart to put it away in a cupboard - it's too gorgeous to hide and I'll be using it often.

Hats off to Lodge for an excellent product and applause to Amazon for selling it with the free shipping. This pan will last more than a lifetime. Worth it's weight in gold - and now that I've used it, worth every single penny in price. I hope Lodge will add more pans to the Signature line!

Great product made even better - RC -
Lodge is one of the few cookware products still made in the U.S. Their cookware is widely recommended by experts. A standard skillet like this will run in the mid to high 's, and I've seen plenty of seconds for + at Marshall's, etc. But those handles will get hot and need a holder. This product goes one big one better, since it has the great looking (and design award winning) stainless steel stay-cool handle (note that the long handle will stay cool about 1 1/2"+ away from the skillet, but the short loop will still need a holder). Pre-seasoning helps a lot. I am dissappointed, though, that Amazon is selling this for 7 delivered when there are several other online sources selling it for + or so less, delivered (Chef's Catalog, a vendor here, sells it for with free delivery).
